Mass cytometry by time-of-flight is the highest parameter single cell proteomics technology publicly available. It empowers researchers to reveal the expression of up to 50 protein targets on each individual cell. Cells are stained with antibodies bound to metal probes and run in suspension, much like with a flow cytometer. Likewise, the staining protocols are also very similar to flow cytometry protocols and the end product is an FCS file that can be analyzed in FlowJo, Cytobank, or with algorithms in a programming language like R or Python.
